Intro to Flogging

A hands-on, interactive workshop teaching you all the basics to swing a flogger with confidence - by popular demand, MeglaDom is back at Studio of Secrets! Learn to use a flogger in this kink workshop suitable for beginners

Introducing Secret Sessions. An alternative to our higher energy Secret Society, these have a similar low-key vibe as Pins & Needles events but with a wide variety of play to explore.

After two sold-out years, we are bringing back Flog Fest this February. Facilitated by our same expert facilitator as 2024 and 2025, we are delighted to welcome (the impact artist now known as) MeglaDom to the Studio!

Our first workshop in the series covers all you need to know to gain confidence with a flogger. Flogging is an impact play technique using one flogger on a partner.

If you would like to learn how to use two – join our Intro to Florentines workshop, or buy a discounted pass to both (available at checkout). Discounted tickets available for Trans/ BIPOC attendees - $45 single workshop/ $80 both - email info@studioofsecrets.com to receive an access code.

During this introductory class we will discuss:
• consent
• flogger types
• safety
• strike zones
• patterns including transitions and variation

A significant portion of the class will be set aside for practice, including guided practical instruction followed by free time where you will be observed and provided individual tips and pointers.

This class will follow the first three of MeglaDom’s four levels of flogging. These are flog air, flog wall, flog person, flog in public.

  • Flogging the air improves your pattern

  • Flogging the wall (or other inanimate object) improves your recoil management

  • Flogging a person gives you verbal feedback

  • Flogging in public requires a greater level of situational awareness

There may be the opportunity to flog another person during this class. Part of the learning about flogging is learning to both give and receive. It is ideal if you bring a person to pair up with for this activity. You will still learn a lot if you come solo, but there is no guarantee nor requirement that people who don’t know each other will get to partner up.

Consent underpins kink practice. You must have explicit, enthusiastic consent from a person to do kinky things with them. Consent is informed, ongoing and enthusiastic. We will discuss the importance of consent as part of our class.

No part of this class is compulsory. Participants are welcome to opt out at any stage.

Participants are encouraged to bring their own flogger or borrow one from a friend.
Another option is to buy a good quality introductory floggers, they cost about $120:00. Recommended introductory floggers are at Lucrezia and De Sade in Fitzroy, Eagle Leather in Collingwood, or check out the handmade offerings from the wonderful crew at Collared Foxy. They are available in a variety of materials, colours and sizes.

ABOUT MEGLADOM:

MeglaDom loves impact play and has been consensually hitting bottoms for the past decade. Flogging is the area of impact play that he loves the most and he practices most days. He has played publicly at a variety of Melbourne kink events including Splinter, Provocation, OZKinfest and Fantastic where crowds (may) have enjoyed his connecting and creative impact techniques.

MeglaDom's teaching style is dynamic and interactive. A hands-on learner himself, MeglaDom has spent over twenty years learning and then teaching practical skills outside of kink including martial arts and trades. Participants can expect to be taking part in hands-on practice multiple times in a class. He breaks skills to be taught down to specific micro-skills then teaches these progressively, leading to heightened skill development. He has taught introductory and intermediate impact play one-on-one and in skill share formats to unanimously positive feedback.
